With High School Graduation having come and gone, a series of new adventures and experiences await me as I begin my journey as a first-generation college student. For any student, the college process can be stressful and nerve wracking, but it is even more frustrating as a first-generation, such as myself, because you don’t know the resources that are available to you and where to find help. Even though I find myself overwhelmed at times, I find comfort knowing that I have the support of my friends, family, and church.
Putting the technicalities aside, I am excited to begin college because I am ready for the independence and freedom that comes along with. I enjoy having the ability to create a schedule that works for me, as well as live on my own and truly be an adult. In addition, I am excited to meet new people who share the same interests. Being from a smaller town and a close-knit church, I have seen a lot of the same faces for a rather long time. Furthermore, college will help me to define my purpose and figure out what it is that I truly like and will push me outside of my comfort zone to try new things.
Overall, I am looking forward to what college has in store for me. When the journey begins to get overwhelming, I’ll remember that I have a support system at home, but most importantly, I have the greatest support system of all: God.
