Christmas has become a time of year when family and friends get together. We have a big dinner and we enjoy one other’s company. We exchange gifts, and unfortunately, some go into debt.
I have seen so many signs saying: “Merry X-mas” or “Happy Holidays”. When I was a child, Christmas was about the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He came for us so we could become closer with the Father. These days, however, Christmas is about who can give the better or most gifts. This time of year is filled with so much trouble and strife. We treat each other poorly and we don't talk and fellowship with one another. We live dark, sheltered lives when we should turn to Jesus. The Word of God reminds us that, "The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine….For a child is born to us, a son is given to us" (Isaiah 9:2, 6). For me, Jesus is always the reason to celebrate this season and special time of year.
Merry Christmas!
